Camgirl Q&A: Episode 2: NadiaLayne

Welcome to the Camgirl Q&A Series where we take an inside look into the world of camming from the people who know it best – the girls themselves! It’s always fun to see the different perspectives and experiences that come with camming, since each journey is so individual. If you have any question suggestions, share them in the comments below!

Welcome, NadiaLayne! ♥

Q: What is your preferred cam site/subscription site? Where can one find you?
A: The best place to find me is http://nadialayneyoga.com or https://twitter.com/nadialayne_ Those are the most up to date.

Q: How long have you been camming?
A: 6+ years! I was part-time for a long time. I made a difficult decision to leave my full time career to teach yoga/aerobics and do SW. But I became a full-time SW in 2020 (for obvious reasons).

Q: What has surprised you the MOST about camming?
A: How much I enjoy chatting with people. I have made some great connections over the years and have a vested interest in their lives. Also, it surprised me how much guys are obsessed with dicks. Why are dudes so obsessed with dicks??? Guys, women do not care as much about dicks as you think they do.

Q: How open are you about your camming with others?
A: Very little. I wouldn’t say I have that many friends to begin with, but a few of my friends know. But they don’t really know all that’s involved. It’s a bit more challenging to answer questions about what I do around family when I don’t have other jobs as a cover. It’s just so hard to tell people unfortunately.

Q: Is there anything that helped you become more comfortable camming?
A: Wow, tough to say. Positive feedback from fans helps for sure. Having other models to talk to is great as well. I suffer from impostor syndrome, so I’ve been forcing myself to repeat affirmations before I get online to pump myself up. (Yes! You can do it!)

Q: What item under $50 is a camming “game changer”?
A: Lighting is the obvious answer here. A stand with a ring-light is a great for making phone videos. Also, a realistic looking dildo can be nice to have. The ones with the suction and balls are quite versatile. Another option would be back-up drives or cloud storage. I use pcloud, and it’s really helpful to have because I can access it on several devices.

Q: Are you saving up for anything special right now?
A: Nothing in particular at the moment. Another phone with a quality camera is on my wishlist.

Q: How different is your “cam persona” to the real you?
A: It’s pretty similar. But the things that people say to you while camming is completely different than what they would say in person, so it’s not a direct comparison. You can’t really walk up to women and tell them they have a nice ass in real life, but this is acceptable behavior online. So my cam persona is not terribly different from my real personality, just nicer, lol.

Q: What has been your most memorable camming moment?
A: A moment that stands out to me is when I wasn’t sure about getting a lovense lush, but I made back the money I spent and then some the first time I used it. (Absolutely! Lush 3 is a must for any camgirl!) And, while that was a great day, the best overall memory is the connections I’ve had going back several years with fans/friends. We even have a fantasy football league.

Q: What advice would you give to someone wanting to start camming?
A:

  • Know the rules of the site you are working on. And follow them. Don’t risk losing future income for one boner.
  • Additionally, there is so much work that models do offline that is unseen. The amount of money you make is often relative to the amount of time you have to spend on those things.
  • Overall, it’s a fun and flexible career unlike any other. BUT it’s not for everyone.

Camgirl Q&A: Episode 1: DreamL0ver

Welcome to the Camgirl Q&A Series where we take an inside look into the world of camming from the people who know it best – the girls themselves! It’s always fun to see the different perspectives and experiences that come with camming, since each journey is so individual. If you have any question suggestions, share them in the comments below!

Welcome, DreamL0ver! Find all of her social & cam links here.

Q: What is your preferred cam site/subscription site?

A: Chaturbate has been my preferred website for camming. They provide a huge amount of traffic and it’s a great place to start if you don’t have a large following, because you don’t have to worry about bringing your own traffic with you.

Q: How long have you been camming?

A: I’ve been camming for 3 years in December.

Q: What has surprised you the MOST about camming?

A: What surprised me the most about camming is the love and acceptance within the community. The sex-worker community is so open, accepting, caring and loving. Everyone kind of looks out for each other, even if you don’t really know each other!

Q: How open are you about your camming with others?

A: I’m so lucky that I can very open with my friends and family that I cam full time for a living. Most of them have been very accepting and are curious about it, but not in like a nosey kind way, in a general caring kind of way. I have yet to have anyone in my personal life judge me negatively for choosing to do this.

Q: Is there anything that helped you become more comfortable camming?

A: Being in my own bedroom is what kept me in my comfort zone when I first started camming and remembering that I could shut down at any time if I felt uncomfortable. Being able to ban people helps too. I played my favorite music that I quickly started dancing to to keep myself busy during the slower times, and one of my roommates is my moderator, so I know I’m always in good hands.

Q: What item under $50 is a camming “game changer”?

A: LED Light Bars!! You don’t need fancy photography lighting! I bought two cheap 5000k daylight led light strips from a hardware store and they light up my room perfectly. They have served me well from 720hd all the way to 4K!

Q: Are you saving up for anything special right now?

A: I’m not currently saving for anything special thanks to the pandemic, however I always make sure to save as much as I can because you never know when traffic slows down or when you want to take time away for a little vacation. (So very true! Saving is so important when you have income that can be unstable – See my post on how to manage your money as a camgirl).

Q: How different is your “cam persona” to the real you?

A: My cam persona vs the real me are only slightly different. My personality generally remains the same, however I do filter or re-word things I would normally put very bluntly when somebody starts getting on my nerves — in my room we say “This isn’t Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, we don’t sugar coat shit here!” — so let’s just say my “customer service voice” has to kick in once in a while haha.

Q: What has been your most memorable camming moment?

A: My most memorable moment camming so far had to be my birthday for 2020. The turn out was wild and we did some pretty wicked things that night!

Q: What advice would you give to someone wanting to start camming?

A: My best advice when first starting is:

  • SAVE as much money as you can, esp. if you don’t have a second source of income. If you don’t have something to fall back on, the slow times can financially make or break you.
  • Don’t expect to get rich quick, but keep at it and enjoy what you do and eventually the viewers will come to you.
  • Be yourself, they will fall in love with who you are. Then you’ll have it made!
  • Also, start simple — you don’t need to go broke with your very first set of equipment (i.e camera and computer), anything running 720 will be more than enough for you to start out with. Give it a year or so, if you’re still sticking it out and climbing the ranks, then consider starting to re-invest your money back into new equipment. (Very wise! I agree with that as well. Don’t get too overwhelmed buying the “best” equipment right off the bat – start small. Check out my post on starting camming on a limited budget).

Jealousy in the Camming World – How to Overcome It

jealousy camgirl

When your job requires you to be in competition for members’ attention with thousands of other girls, any feelings of jealousy that might come up are absolutely normal. Seeing other camgirls showered with tokens and gifts when you’re having a bad night is the last thing any one of us wants to experience. Yet, it’s the reality of camming, and you need to change your thinking around to be able to have a long and successful camming career.

Here Are Some Ways to Overcome It:

Rule #1: Do not watch other girls, and limit your social media viewing

It’s common to go online and watch other girls’ stream either out of boredom or to see what the other girls are doing and how well their night is going. While it’s perfectly okay to do in moderation (it can be great entertainment and you can even tip the girls if you’re feeling generous), it does seem to cause a lot of insecurity and feelings of jealousy, because you can see with your own eyes when a girl is getting a ton of tokens and attention. You then start the comparison and insecurity cycle, where you begin to doubt yourself and your abilities and even be afraid of logging on, because you don’t feel like you can measure up. The same thing can happen with social media – seeing perfectly chosen and Facetuned selfies and screenshots of massive tips on other girls’ profiles can only generate negativity, especially if you’re already getting down on yourself and feeling like you’re not good enough, or that you’ll *never* be successful enough.

Remember: Comparison is the thief of joy. Watching other girls and seeing how well they’re supposedly doing on cam (you don’t know what goes on behind the scenes) does not benefit you in any way, and only causes insecurity, wastes time, and takes your attention away from YOU.

Rule #2: Don’t get possessive over members – You don’t own them

Say that you do get into the habit of watching other camgirls, either before or after your shift. What may unfortunately happen is that you notice one of your tippers hanging out in another girl’s room and… tipping her, maybe even more than he normally tips you. This is a bit of a horror scenario for any camgirl. Feelings of jealousy are likely to come out and you can became pretty enraged. One thing to remember is that members are not tied to you and are allowed to tip anyone they want and be online at times you’re not. If you were to follow Rule 1, you would never have to experience this very unpleasant situation.

However, if you happen to, take a few breaths, realize that the person on the other side of the screen has his own life and makes his own decisions independently about who to tip, and you being upset or angry at him won’t help in any way. In fact, it may alienate the very member that you want to keep. So, staying offline when you’re not streaming is a very good solution in preventing a lot of jealousy and unnecessary anger.

Rule #3: Figure out coping skills for when you’re feeling jealous and insecure

We are not perfect and the temptation to check up on other girls or your high tippers may be too strong sometimes to resist. So, when you do see a girl doing well or talking to your high tipper, here are some of the things you can do to make yourself feel better and less emotionally reactive. A great strategy is to just walk away and switch your thoughts toward something else, like going for a walk, cleaning your camroom, doing your nails, cooking dinner, etc. Just about anything (as long as it’s healthy) would be a great way to modify your thoughts and get away from the situation that may be causing you pain.

If that doesn’t work, try working through your feelings to really get to the bottom of why you’re reacting this way or this strongly. You can journal or talk to someone supportive about it. If you feel like your feelings of insecurity and jealousy are taking over your life and thoughts, it may also be time to speak to a therapist who will be able to help. There are also many ways to help yourself with consistent and self-compassionate self-care (See my post about it here). Camming is tough and can really play a number on your self-esteem if you’re not careful enough, so take time to take care of yourself! 💖

⋆ How to Become a Webcam Model – Beginner Camgirl Advice

camming beginner how to advice

“How do you become a cam model? Do you need any special equipment or have a certain look for it to work? How easy is it to get started and make that first paycheck?”

I had ALL of these questions when I was starting out camming years ago and this is what I’ve learned. Above all, if you’ve done your research, you’re already further ahead than an average camgirl, so read on!

MAKE SURE YOU:

  • Pick the Right Site! There is a wide variety of camsites: some older and more established, some new ones just starting up, and they all feel and work differently. My recommendations are joining Chaturbate and Myfreecams. Chaturbate is the more “sexual” of the two and also allows men and couples to stream. They both have a 50%+ payout percentage and high traffic (Chaturbate more so than MFC). Check out this post for a full list of camsites to join!
  • Have the Right Tools Ready! Being prepared ahead of time is key. Using your built-in webcam to stream is unfortunately not good enough. You need a good quality external webcam like a Logitech C920, which is my personal fave and is used by the majority of camgirls. Check out my post about the Top 3 webcams for camming for other great options. In terms of other tools, having great lighting is such a big part of the equation in looking good on cam, and looking your best will give you the best chance in tippers finding your room. You can see some of my lighting recommendation in this post. As well as having a webcam and a few umbrella lights, make sure your laptop can handle streaming and won’t die on you at the most inopportune moment. Make sure your internet connection is good as well!
  • Consider your Boundaries. Camming is a risky job. You WILL be recorded and uploaded to various sites, including porn sites, and this increases your risk of being seen by your co-worker, neighbor, old highschool friend. The way to minimize the risk is to minimize your exposure, so make sure you block your location on the site. A service like CamModelProtection can help you remove your recorded content that makes its way online. Another consideration is how comfortable are you in your sexuality and can you be on a site doing sexual things? You don’t have to be a sex kitten, but you need to feel ok about being watched naked, masturbating, etc. A lot of girls love the thrill!

BENEFITS OF CAMMING

  • Setting your own schedule
  • No one there to tell you what to do
  • Can easily ban anyone who is rude or demanding toward you
  • Potential to make A LOT of money very quickly
  • Being spoiled with gifts

becoming camgirl advice tips

Ok, so how do you REALLY become a full-fledged camgirl? What are the exact steps you should take?

No need to be anxious about trying out camming (a lot of guys actually really like a new, inexperienced girl!). Go through the steps below:

Step 1:

Sign up as a Model: Pick a site you’d like to try out (or 2! Nothing wrong with having options, and you get a chance to see what you like on each site). You’ll be asked to fill out your personal details and upload a photo ID to show that you are at least 18 years old. Approval time varies between sites, but you should get a notification in a day or two.

Step 2:

best webcam for camming advice

While you wait, make sure you’ve got some equipment ready that I’ve mentioned – an external webcam (I recommend Logitech C920), a set of umbrella lights (like the Limo Studio Umbrella Lights) and if you’d like – some cute lingerie and maybe a new toy or two. Pinkcherry is a great place to get all those! Beyond that, you just need to bring your personality and a lot of patience. 🙂

Speaking of patience, you’re going to need to give yourself time to succeed on a site. Don’t think that just because you see top models making hundreds of dollars an hour that you will get there overnight. You need months and months of consistent camming to build up an audience and ‘regulars’, guys who will tune in to watch you every time you’re on. Consistency is key! This is one of the biggest pieces of advice I can give an aspiring cam model. Of course, a bit of luck is important too. Just because you have the looks, the personality and the work ethic, you will not automatically have success, but it you’ve done your research and have all the things ready before broadcasting you give yourself the best chance of success!

Step 3:

how to become a cam model advice tips

Once you get approved, this is a good time to create a Twitter and an Amazon wishlist, and add some graphics to your model profile. While Twitter and wishlist are not required, promoting yourself on social media is so important to get yourself new tippers, unless of course, you prefer to keep things on the down-low, in which case you can do a protected twitter. Some girls even keep a tumblr and other blogs. It’s all up to you, so do what feels right. A word of warning: Make sure you don’t put your real address on your Amazon wishlist and either use a PO box or don’t add it at all. Your profile doesn’t need to be complicated – add some information about yourself and put up some eye-catching pics.

Step 4:

how to become a camgirl advice tips

You’re ready to broadcast!I know it can be nerve-wracking to press that Broadcast button for the first time, but you gotta jump in and experience it. Remember, you’re in control, and you can sign out at any point, for any reason. If anyone is making you uncomfortable or is being rude or demanding, don’t be afraid to ban them. Put on whatever will make you most comfortable, apply some nice makeup, if you wear it, and click that button! There is going to be a lot of learning going on in the first few months, and you’ll probably make a lot of mistakes, which all of us do, but practice makes perfect! When you’re on cam, my biggest tip is to smile! Yes, it’s so simple, but a lot of new girls don’t realize how unapproachable they look without a smile.

To get some conversation going, you can ask guys some small-talk general questions, or say something interesting about yourself and someone will jump into the conversation. Set your “room topic” to some sort of token countdown. For example, “Top off in 555! 50=Flash, 100=Fansign, 30=Spanks”.  You are giving guys something to tip for and get them interacting. A dance and some teasing is a good way to get people in the room, I find. It’s a good idea to watch other models to see what they put in their topics and what kinds of countdowns work.

Step 5:

First cam shift is over! Pat yourself on the back. Now you can start thinking about what you may do the next time you’re on. It’s a good idea to offer tipping incentives for guys to tip offline, because it can boost your camscore on a site like MFC, and of course makes you more money. A very popular option these days is offering a Snapchat or an OnlyFans subscription on a monthly basis. If you can commit to sending out pics every day/a few times a week, it’s a good option. Another option is to make photosets and videos. I recommend setting up an account on Manyvids to sell them there. This is a great option to make that passive income! You can also do a raffle, which are really popular on MFC, and they can be for anything – a custom video, a Skype, homemade cookies shipped directly to the winner! (Be careful about not giving away your real address when doing this).

onlyfans earnings

So, these are the basics to becoming a camgirl. Through trial and error you’ll know what works for you and what doesn’t, because everyone is different and there is room for all. 🙂 Good luck!
